How To Get Beer Garden Seats At A Georgia Southern Game

Many college sports fans are excited about that news that they'll be to crack open a cold one at an SEC stadium. It'll be a new way of life in the conference.

But it isn't new elsewhere. Schools in the Power 5 conferences are divided about whether or not booze is allowed.

For years, conference officials and have teased fans with the temptation of an ice cold brew and some have already opened the tap. Most recently, the SEC presidents voted to lift the organization's ban on alcohol sales inside stadiums during games. Every conference has left it up to the schools to decide if they will carry out alcohol sales and how they will be handled — many are still figuring that out.

Here is where every school in the Power 5 stands on alcohol at games.

ACC

Boston College

According to the Boston College's stadium rules, alcohol is sold at designated concessions and kept at a two drink maximum per identification, per transaction.

Beer and wine are sold in Conte Forum and the luxury boxes in Alumni Stadium during regular season play.

The school has strict tailgating instructions that limit where, when and how alcohol can be served.

Clemson University

Alcohol is not sold in Clemson's stadium, but fans who buy premium tickets are allowed to bring their own drinks to enjoy in private seating areas.

Duke University

According to university-wide alcohol policy, no alcoholic beverages are permitted within the confines of campus athletic facilities during sporting events.

Game attendees with premium tickets are allowed to have alcohol in their personal suites.

Florida State University

FSU allows alcohol to be sold at the off-campus basketball arena and on-campus baseball field, but limits alcohol sales to a "back porch" area of the school's on-campus football stadium.

During baseball games, fans are limited to three beers per game and four during a doubleheader. No beers are to be sold after the sixth inning.

Concessions at basketball games sell craft beer and cocktails.

Georgia Tech

Beer is available in the club section of Georgia Tech's football stadium, but not in general seating.

The campus alcohol policy has rules for tailgating.

University of Louisville

According to the Cardinal Stadium guide, alcohol sales are permitted inside the football facility during games. However, sales are only allowed to operate between the time gates are opened until the end of the third quarter. Attendees are limited to two alcoholic beverages at a time. Drinks are allowed during basketball games as well in the off-campus KFC Yum Center.

The guide also includes extensive tailgating instructions to which that fans must adhere.

University of Miami

The Hard Rock Stadium guide says that alcohol sales for the 100 and 300 levels ends at the start of the third quarter for University of Miami football.

Alcohol service on the Club Level ends one hour after the game, and guests may not purchase or possess more than two drinks at one time.

Family-friendly seating with no alcohol is available in specific sections.

University of North Carolina

According to Kenan Stadium's policies, alcohol is not allowed in the stadium.

A bill was passed by the North Carolina House in April to allow the University of North Carolina system schools to sell alcohol at athletic events. This challenges the law passed in June 2018 that permitted alcohol at collegiate games, but not in on-campus venues.

North Carolina State University

According to NC State's alcohol policy, alcohol sales are prohibited in athletic facilities and during games with the exception of availability in the football stadium's premium seating area and at tailgating events.

University of Pittsburgh

Alcohol sales are allowed at the off-campus football field on game days.

There is a maximum of two beers per purchase, and the University of Pittsburgh's alcohol distributor, Aramark, may stop alcohol sales at any time.

Syracuse University

Syracuse allows alcohol sales at its on-campus stadium to fans in general seating areas.

University of Virginia

The University of Virginia's alcohol and drug policy states that alcoholic beverages cannot be sold at any event sponsored by the university or on its property where underage students may be present.

Virginia Tech

Alcohol is only allowed in premium ticket areas of school's football stadium.

According to the school's baseball game day information, fans can enjoy a maximum of two drinks per transaction at the English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park before the end of the seventh inning.

Wake Forest University

Alcohol is available to all (of age) fans that attend Wake Forest football and baseball games.

Tailgating rules at Wake Forest are more relaxed but still included on the game day information page.

University of Notre Dame

The school's alcohol possession and use guidelines prohibit alcohol possession and consumption within athletic facilities.

Notre Dame does allow students of age to host and participate in tailgates.

Big Ten

University of Illinois

In April, athletics officials at the University of Illinois announced that beer will be sold beginning next season in the school's football and basketball venues. Baseball and softball games are also expected to be able to sell alcohol. There is a two beer limit.

Indiana University

Add Indiana University to the growing list of schools that sell alcohol. In April, the school said in a news release stating that beer and wine will be available to all fans this fall.

University of Iowa

The University of Iowa is still resisting the temptation to sell alcohol at games. Currently, alcohol is only allowed in stadium suites and at the soon-to-be-completed Kinnick Edge outdoor club.

University of Maryland

Alcohol is sold to all fans at the University of Maryland's stadium at a one drink per transaction limit before the end of the third quarter.

The school has a designated driver program that provides water to sober drivers and access to taxi and Uber rides.

University of Michigan

The athletics officials at the University of Michigan do not allow alcohol anywhere in the stadium or arena.

Michigan State University

MSU athletic director, Bill Beekman, doesn't plan on allowing alcohol inside his stadium anytime soon. Beer and other alcohol beverages are sold to donors in premium seating, but only because the suites are disconnected to the stadium.

University of Minnesota

In May, the University of Minnesota Board of Regents postponed a vote to allow alcohol sales at all of its sports facilities.

Football fans can already buy beer and wine in the stadium an hour before kickoff to the end of halftime at a two drink per transaction limit.

University of Nebraska

Alcohol is not permitted anywhere on University of Nebraska grounds, but, in May, the school's athletic director said he was considering allowing alcohol, at least in some places, in the stadium.

Northwestern University

Alcoholic beverages are prohibited inside any part of Northwestern's Ryan Field, the school's football facility.

Ohio State University

According to Ohio State's alcohol policy, fans can buy a limit of two beers per person per transaction before the end of halftime.

A designated driver program is available and provides free soft drinks to sober drivers throughout the game.

Penn State University

Alcohol is allowed to be sold to fans with premium seating at Penn State football games.

Purdue University

Purdue has seen some major increases in revenue after the school began selling alcohol to all fans in its football stadium.

Beer and wine are also sold in Purdue's basketball arena.

Rutgers University

This fall, beer and wine sales will be extended to attendees in general seating for both Rutgers football and basketball games.

University of Wisconsin

Alcohol is sold in club areas, but Wisconsin's chancellor doesn't plan on expanding sales to fans in general seating any time soon.

Big 12

Baylor University

According to Baylor's policy on alcohol and other drugs, alcohol is not allowed anywhere on campus.

Iowa State University

Currently, alcohol is only allowed in suite seating at Iowa State. The school's athletic director said that the rules wouldn't change soon.

University of Kansas

Following a trial period at Kansas, school officials have decided to not sell alcohol in general seating, but the school has authorized for alcohol to be brought into the stadium's premium areas.

Kansas State University

According to KSU's athletics alcohol policy, cereal malt beverages (drinks with 3.2% or less alcohol content) and alcoholic beverages may be sold to guests with premium tickets.

The policy also outlines rules for game day tailgating.

University of Oklahoma

The University of Oklahoma is rolling out an experimental pilot program this fall that allows alcohol sales throughout the entire football stadium.

Sooners have been able to purchase beer at the university's basketball games since last season.

Oklahoma State University

Alcohol is available to all fans at Oklahoma State's football stadium.

Texas Christian University

TCU has considered adding alcohol sales to its stadium for quite awhile, however, no plans have been made to start selling.

Currently, alcohol is sold in premium seating.

University of Texas

The University of Texas has sold alcohol to all fans since 2015. In 2016, beer and wine sales jumped more than 70%.

Texas Tech University

The Texas Tech University Board of Regents voted to authorize beer and wine sales at all sporting events after the school's 2018 season.

West Virginia University

WVU was the first Big 12 school to tap into the beer trend. Alcohol sales are allowed at all athletic events for every fan.

Pac-12

University of Arizona

Beer and wine sales are open to everyone in the University of Arizona's athletic facilities.

Arizona State University

Arizona State expanded beer and wine sales to all concessions in the school's football stadium except behind the student section.

University of California

According to the game day visitors guide, no alcohol is allowed in Cal's stadium with the exception of club level seating.

University of California, Los Angeles

The UCLA strictly prohibits the sale of alcohol in their athletic facilities and does not allow guests to bring in their own.

University of Colorado

The University of Colorado sells alcohol in the general concourse area of the stadium.

University of Oregon

Beer and wine are sold in every concession stand in the University of Oregon's stadium with the exception of the student section. Consumption of alcohol in the student section is a violation of the school's rules.

Oregon State University

Oregon State also sells beer and wine during game days to all of age fans. There is a two drink maximum per purchase, and sales stop after the end of the third quarter.

The stadium features a "Family Zone" where alcohol is not sold or present.

University of Southern California

According to the USC Trojans guide, alcohol is completely prohibited inside the stadium.

Stanford University

Stanford stadium policies state that beer and wine sales are only permitted in premium ticket areas. Alcohol is neither sold or allowed in general seating.

University of Utah

Utah's fan guide does not allow any alcohol in the athletic venue.

University of Washington

The University of Washington stadium includes a beer garden called the "Off-Leash Deck", and it is open to all of age fans. Beer sales are cut off at the end of the third quarter.

Washington State University

Athletic directors at Washington State University have attempted to bring booze to the school's stadium, but WSU's president says that "political elements" are getting in their way.

The school has served beer, wine and spirits in premium and outdoor seating since 2012.

SEC

University of Alabama

Despite the SEC's decision, the University of Alabama doesn't appear to have changed their mind about alcohol sales. The school is not expected to change its current alcohol policies, which allow alcohol in premium seating.

University of Arkansas

The Razorbacks have not released their plans for alcohol either, but the University of Arkansas has allowed alcohol sales in club seating since 2014.

Auburn University

Auburn's president isn't a fan of the SEC's ruling and does not plan on changing Auburn's alcohol policy.

University of Florida

The University of Florida has yet to announce any policy changes, but the school is in a favorable position to turn on the Swamp's tap.

University of Georgia

The University of Georgia will reverse its no alcohol policies this fall by allowing beer and wine to be sold in premium seating - with a $25,000 price tag.

University of Kentucky

The athletics department at the University of Kentucky has yet to respond with alcohol policy changes, but they are weighing their options.

Louisiana State University

For now, fans of LSU can only enjoy a drink in premium seating, but Tigers are eager to see what the athletic department decides.

University of Mississippi

Mississippi law states that no alcoholic beverages can be consumed or sold at public athletic collegiate events, but Ole Miss fans are hoping that this law can be revised.

Mississippi State University

Mississippi State currently has no permanent chancellor or athletic director, so, in addition to complications of state law, this college's decision could take some time.

University of Missouri

Mizzou officials released a statement saying that they were ready to consider the possibility of booze after the SEC decision was made. Previously, University of Missouri allowed alcohol in premium seating.

University of South Carolina

The University of South Carolina has not announced alcohol policy changes.

University of Tennessee

UT recently got permission from the state legislature to sell alcohol at the school's non-sports events, and allows alcohol in premium seating of athletic facilities.

School officials have partially announced their plans for the upcoming football season.

Aramark will be able to sell beer at bowl level seating, wine at club level and a full bar in suites. Gamer-goers can only buy two drinks at a time. Alcoholic beverages will most likely be sold in black cups to distinguish from alcohol-free drinks.

Texas A&M University

School and athletic officials have not finalized their alcohol policy plans but are on board with the SEC's decision.

Vanderbilt University

Representatives of Vanderbilt's athletic department have yet to comment on the SEC's decision.
